Please note that the After School Achievement Club is also open on most half-days and school holidays. Monthly tuition payments make the program affordable to all.

82nd Street Academics provides an After School program for students in Kindergarten through 8th Grades. The After School Achievement Club is open five days a week from 2:30 to 6:30 PM for homework completion, daily literacy exercises, and enrichment activities.

Students arrive at the After School program from various neighborhood schools. We offer a pick-up service for students attending St. Joan of Arc, P.S. 212, and P.S. 69. Students arriving from other schools usually take a private school bus.

Students in the After School program are separated by grades. They work with trained instructors to complete their daily homework, which is a priority in all classrooms. The After School teachers work hard to make sure all assignments are completed and they guide students to correct their own errors.

After homework time, students have a daily reading and writing workshop that encourages literacy skills. By 4:30 PM, most students are ready to participate in enrichment activities including Music, Dance, Arts & Crafts, and Physical Recreation.

This year, older students will also have the opportunity to join special interest clubs led by our After School teachers.

7 core activities

1. Homework Help

Homework completion and correction is our first priority. Assignments are checked by trained group leaders. Our goal is to ensure that students understand the material and develop good study habits that they will use throughout their academic careers.
2. Literacy

After homework is complete, each student participates in a literacy-building activity. Older students will read a chapter book together followed by reflection through discussion or a writing assignment. Younger students have a read-aloud time.
3. Family Style Meals

We serve a full supper at 4:00 pm daily. Students and staff members sit together and eat as a group. Staff members encourage students to share about their day and make healthy choices. All meals meet federal and state nutrition standards.
4. Enrichment and Clubs

Enrichment activities encourage students to use their creative skills in classes such as Drama. With Clubs, older students tudents actively engage in the planning process for how they will spend their time. Clubs boost confidence and keep students motivated.
5. The Learning Park

Our After School students always look forward to time in the Learning Park. Our state-of-the-art playground challenges students to exercise gross-motor skills to build balance, strength, and agility. The workout also helps students to focus on their academic tasks later in the afternoon.
6. Teacher Led Activities

Teachers plan daily activities that meet state learning standards. Activities may include arts and crafts, science lessons, community building, and health awareness.
7. School Spirit

Theme days and school-wide contests (such as Class Colors Day and our Reading Contest) keep students interested in attending our program. Weekly assemblies are when students can demonstrate what they have learned through theme activities.
