Homework completion and correction is our first priority. Assignments are checked by trained group leaders. Our goal is to ensure that students understand the material and develop good study habits that they will use throughout their academic careers.

After homework is complete, each student participates in a literacy-building activity. Older students will read a chapter book together followed by reflection through discussion or a writing assignment. Younger students have a read-aloud time.

We serve a full supper at 4:00 pm daily. Students and staff members sit together and eat as a group. Staff members encourage students to share about their day and make healthy choices. All meals meet federal and state nutrition standards.

Enrichment activities encourage students to use their creative skills in classes such as Drama. With Clubs, older students actively engage in the planning process for how they will spend their time. Clubs boost confidence and keep students motivated.

Our After School students always look forward to time in the Learning Park. Our state-of-the-art playground challenges students to exercise gross-motor skills to build balance, strength, and agility. The workout also helps students to focus on their academic tasks later in the afternoon.

Teachers plan daily activities that meet state learning standards. Activities may include arts and crafts, science lessons, community building, and health awareness.

Theme days and school-wide contests (such as Class Colors Day and our Reading Contest) keep students interested in attending our program. Weekly assemblies are when students can demonstrate what they have learned through theme activities.

82nd Street Academics’ After School program at the main campus is in its 14th year of serving students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade. The After School Achievement Club is open five days a week from 2:30 to 6:30 PM for daily homework completion, literacy exercises, a hot meal, and enrichment classes.

Students arrive at the After School program from various neighborhood schools. We offer a pick-up service for students attending St. Joan of Arc, P.S. 212, and P.S. 69. Students arriving from other schools usually take a private school bus or walk with a caregiver.

Students in the After School program are separated by grades. They work with trained instructors to complete their daily homework, which is a priority in all classrooms. The After School teachers work hard to make sure all assignments are completed and they guide students to correct and learn from errors.

After homework time, students have a hot supper in a family-style setting. Next, a daily reading and writing workshop encourages literacy skills. By 5:00 PM, most students are ready to participate in enrichment activities including Music, Drama, Arts & Crafts, and Physical Recreation in the Learning Park playground. Older students have the opportunity to join special interest clubs led by our After School teachers.

In 2010, 82^nd Street Academics opened a new branch of the After School Achievement Club at Public School 69 in Jackson Heights. This year, we are expanding the program to serve nearly 100 students from 3:00 to 6:30 pm every day.

The After School program at P.S. 69 is available for students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade who attend P.S. 69. There are no additional fees for pick-up, since the program is held in the same location as the regular school day.

Families can expect the same level of quality homework completion and enrichment activities that has made the program famous at our main site. We work closely with Principal Martha Vazquez, of P.S. 69, to ensure our program supports school goals.

Program tuition is affordable and can be paid in monthly installments. Scholarships may be available for families with financial need.

82^nd Street Academics is providing FREE After School programming for 6^th through 10^th Grade students attending Renaissance Charter School in Jackson Heights. The program will run Monday through Friday from 3:10 to 6:00 pm.

This after school program is a collaboration between 82nd Street Academics and Renaissance Charter School and is funded by The After School Corporation, Renaissance Charter School, and the New York City Council.
